Tadka chana Dal

Dal is a staple food in India. India has so many varieties of dal recipes. Each region and State have their own style of making delicious dal.
I love the tadka dal that is served at the restaurants. So I try to bring that magic with my recipe that I make at home.
I choose to make this Dal when I am left with "no vegetables" in the refrigerator and this turns as a special dish.

Sharing the recipe: serves for 4.

Ingredients:

-1 cup chana Dal
-1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
-1 large onion chopped
-2 medium size tomatoes chopped
-1 tsp turmeric powder
-1 green chilli
-1 tejpatta
-1 tsp coriander powder
-1/3 tsp garam masala
-salt as per your taste
-2 cups water
-1 tbsp oil for cooking
-fresh coriander leaves

Method:

- Wash chana Dal, put it in pressure cooker, add water, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and salt.
-Wait for 5-6 whistles on medium flame, Dal should be cooked completely.
-Heat oil in a kadahi, add cumin seeds, green chilli and tejpatta, let it crackle, then add onion
-Saute for 3-4 minutes till it becomes soft and golden in color
-Add tomatoes ,mix well and saute for 2 -3 minutes till it becomes soft
-Add salt, turmeric powder, garam masala and coriander powder
-Add the cooked Dal in above mixture
-if required add little water according to the consistency you need.
-cover the kadahi and let it boil for 2 minutes.

garnish with coriander leaves and butter,
serve hot with rice or roti with salad.
